Secrets of a Decommissioned Submarine | Québec, Canada

We're visiting a decommissioned submarine called the Onondaga. It's Canada's first submarine museum and has been left pretty much "as is" so you can understand what life aboard was like. This sub travelled nearly one million kilometres whilst in service and now rests at home on the beach in Rimouski, Québec. The submarine is part of the Pointe-au-Père National Historic Site where you'll also find a lighthouse you can climb and the Empress of Ireland Museum. We visit the Empress of Ireland Museum which is devoted to one of the worst tragedies in Canadian maritime history. The Empress of Ireland was a transatlantic liner that sunk just 13km off the coast of Rimouski in 1914. Though it happened just two years after the Titanic, and claimed nearly as many victims, this story is much less known. Shockingly, it sunk in just 14 minutes. We end the day with a hike in beautiful Bic National Park. It's the last day of our incredible Gaspé road trip before heading on to Québec City. Thank you for the amazing memories, Gaspé! We are delighted to partner with the Québec Maritime Tourism Board to bring you this new series around one of the most picturesque and historic parts of Canada. We've had a lot of requests to share more of our home country and this is the perfect time to introduce you to one of the best summer road trips in Canada.
