Morning Person Juice
I am not a morning person. I never have been and, unless I can stop being a night person, I never will be. Despite repeated attempts, I've at least learned I can't be both. The last time I had brunch at Sadie's Diner, one of my favourite cheap and cheerful spots, I tried their freshly squeezed 'Citrus Explosion' and my eyelids quivered instantaneously in a good way. For all the other non-morning people out there, this will help you fake it!I make freshly squeezed citrus juice fairly regularly at home (about once a week) thanks to a juicer I got at a Williams-Sonoma outlet a few years ago. Mine looks like this model - not a big investment considering you get delicious juice without all the added sugar and chemicals in store bought juice (speaking of which, I really want to read this book). When I was a kid my Dad would sometimes bring me orange juice in bed as a treat so, for me, it's nostalgic as well. At home my go to is pink grapefruit juice but I also like to mix grapefruit and orange. Sadie's inspired me to experiment with lemon too! I don't know what ratio they used but this is what I came up with. Sadly, Sadie's is now closed, so raise a glass in its honour!MORNING PERSON JUICEserves 11 pink grapefruit1 blood orange1/2 lemonTaste tips:+ I just happened to have blood oranges at home but other varieties are delicious too.+ Use more lemon for added ZINGALING.+ This can be made the night before and stored in the fridge but it doesn't taste as good after a couple of days. As ever, the fresher the better. This amount of fruit makes about 10 oz - I filled this glass to the top.Do you drink a lot of citrus juice?
